COURSE DESCRIPTION

BT 206 — Electronic Records Management  (3 cr)

This course emphasizes the principles and practices of the management of information for both manual indexing and automated records systems. The course analyzes the record's life cycle from creation to disposition within the structure of any given organization. Emphasis is placed on the classification of records, application of filing rules, and the organization and management of manual and electronic information. The basic indexing systems concepts cover a variety of indexing schemes for paper and electronic records. This class provides the opportunity to work with computer databases encountered in business. Students will research and present up-to-date information on retention, retrieval, and storage of records and federal legislation designed to protect information and the privacy of the individual or organization.
